Crossroads Academy’s model for achievement is that every student spends every minute of the day with an outstanding teacher, studying a rigorous curriculum in a creative and focused environment. Highly qualified, urban experienced teachers have established the expectations, structure and environment necessary for truly exceptional learning. Crossroads’ teachers have an average of 12 years of experience and over 55% hold a Master’s degree in the field of Education.
Our curriculum is aligned to the Missouri Learning Standards and encompasses Expeditionary Learning, Project Based Learning, Project Lead the Way, and Blended Learning. When you walk into a Crossroads Academy classroom you will observe students learning online, teachers working with small groups, students collaborating, and students working independently. Our classrooms use the co-teaching model which consists of multiple teachers planning and teaching the same group of students. This allows teachers to bounce ideas off each other, get feedback on their teaching, rotate teaching small groups of students, and collaborate on analyzing student growth and necessary interventions. Co-teaching allows students to hear information from multiple sources and in a variety of ways. Students have many avenues to practice skills and concepts at their own pace.
Students spend 37% more time than a traditional school through our extended school day and extended school year calendar. This lengthened program allows for students to be enriched through classes such as Visual Arts, Performing Arts, STEM, and Physical Education. Our students participate in at least six yearly learning expeditions where they experience learning outside of the classroom through special trips and projects. We believe that students need a comprehensive learning experience to fully develop the whole child.
